Technology Adopted for the construction of SHELTER
To construct the shelters split bamboo is used in place of steel. Bamboo is one of the most naturally occurring and fast growing wood substitute in the world. In countries where they have Bamboo, a large percentage of the population who live mainly in the village areas have their own bamboo clump. Bamboo is cheaper than that of other building materials, too. The bamboo used for such purposes can easily be replaced by future plantations.
Disaster Protection
Many locations may face the natural disasters like earthquake, flood, storm winds or cyclones.
We like to describe the disaster protections which are applied in the construction of shelters with BRCC.
Earthquake
The severity of the seismic-force (ground shaking) may be minor, moderate or strong.
Minor shaking occurs frequently, moderate shaking occasionally and strong shaking rarely.
The shelters as constructed will bear the seismic load of minor & moderate shaking but time will speak for itself for the strong shaking.
How will it be able to adhere to the ground shaking? The shape is square, not an irregular shape, it is a simple plan and also symmetrical both with respect to mass and rigidity so it has less eccentricity over and above. A lintel band all around is also provided to tie up the building.
What is the need to provide a lintel band?
The lintel band is provided to tie up all the vertical members so as to adhere to the shocks (unforeseen).
At the time of an earthquake a building tends to twist under the horizontal shaking about vertical axis and the roof is also displaced horizontally. The Twist that occurs in the building is the torsion. Horizontal seismic load coming on the band (perpendicular to the plane of posts & filler panels) and an inertia force on the roof is also developed minimizing the reacting force by reacting uniformly on the components for which the band is surrounding.
The height of the shelter is minimum. It is a single storied structure so no twist nor swing-force will occur.
Flood
The shelter will have to face the shear force (horizontal).
This type & structure of the shelter are able to face the shear force.
Cyclone
Normally the roof is damaged by storm winds and cyclone for which we consider the pitched roof (hipped) will not succumb to the force.
Pitch of the roof is greater than span.
