In Maslow's hierarchy of needs, shelter forms an essential cornerstone near the base of the pyramid. Without shelter people are at the mercy of the elements and at risk from predators. The biggest impediment to universal access to housing is construction cost.
The goal was to find construction materials from the laboratory of nature, so that the materials were economically cheaper and qualitatively superior to conventional construction materials.
The result was ultra-inexpensive and ecologically sound housing technology that is set to revolutionize residential construction throughout the developing world.

BEFORE DESIGNING THE SHELTER WE HAVE TO CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING REALITIES:

  • Local Geographical condition.
  • Local Environment.
  • Local available materials.
  • Pollution free construction practice.
  • Minimum use or no use of wood produce.
  • Technology easily understandable to every Beneficiary so that as and when required the Beneficiaries may replicate the same.
  • Improved leaching pits to be constructed so that human excreta do not contaminate the source of water.
  • We have to provide ample space as a multipurpose room, a kitchen and sanitary latrine with adequate ventilation.
  • The size and shape is to be so designed that it may be able to adhere to the shocks of earthquake, flash flood, cyclone and to protect itself from the rain.
  • The life of the house may extend up to 35 to 40 years, by which the people may save a huge amount every year.
